Is your bathroom or kitchen renovation eligible for Mijn VerbouwPremie?
If you're searching for "Mijn VerbouwPremie" with a bathroom or kitchen renovation in mind, chances are you're finding outdated information. The rules have been revised multiple times recently, and not in favor of homeowners who simply want a new bathroom or kitchen. As a contractor who deals with this daily, we're laying out clearly what does and doesn't qualify today — so you're not caught off guard.
The short answer: a bathroom or kitchen renovation on its own no longer qualifies
Since July 1, 2025, the "interior renovation" category no longer exists within Mijn VerbouwPremie. Concretely, that means retiling, a new bathtub, a new shower, new kitchen cabinets, or a new countertop — the renovation itself — no longer entitles you to this subsidy. That's a significant change from a few years ago, when a full bathroom or kitchen renovation still qualified.
What still qualifies: piping and sanitary preparation work
There's no subsidy for "a bathroom" or "a kitchen" as a whole. What remains eligible, specifically, is:
- Renewing or installing piping for sanitary systems and central heating
- Demolition work in an existing bathroom, tied to new piping
- Certain preparatory electrical work
New fixtures such as a bathtub, shower, toilet, or sink are no longer eligible as of July 1, 2025. It's about what happens behind the wall, not the visible finish.
Also important: this subsidy is reserved for the lowest income categories (category 3 and 4). Homeowners in a higher income category don't qualify for this component.
Are you 65 or older? There's a separate subsidy
Separate from Mijn VerbouwPremie, there's the Flemish adaptation subsidy (Vlaamse aanpassingspremie), specifically for people aged 65 and older who want to adapt their bathroom for aging in place — think a walk-in shower instead of a bathtub, or a second toilet on the main living floor. This subsidy covers part of the approved invoices, with a maximum amount per category.
Why is there so much outdated information online?
The rules around Mijn VerbouwPremie have been revised several times in recent years — with the latest changes taking effect March 1, 2026. Many articles and forum posts online were written before these adjustments and therefore give an outdated picture. That also explains why you sometimes come across conflicting information.
Our recommendation: always verify current conditions directly via Mijn VerbouwLoket on vlaanderen.be before signing a quote. Amounts and conditions are indexed annually and subject to change.
What this means for your project
For most bathroom or kitchen renovations, Mijn VerbouwPremie won't play a major role in the budget — unless piping is actually being renewed and you fall into the right income category. That doesn't mean renovating is less worthwhile: it mainly means your budget should be based on real cost, not on a subsidy that may not apply.
